| Abstract | The present theoretical paper explores the intersection between Neuro-Narcissism (NNS) and the NIFTS scale, offering a multidimensional framework for understanding self-worth in the digital age. NNS represents a neuropsychological adaptation to environments of constant evaluation, where digital visibility and performance metrics shape identity and emotional regulation. The NIFTS scale—comprising five dimensions: Emotional Neglect and Invalidation, Conditional Love and Approval, Control and Manipulation, Family Image and Perfectionism, and Intergenerational Repetition—captures the enduring effects of narcissistic family trauma on self-concept formation. Integrating these constructs reveals how early emotional deprivation and conditional validation evolve into digital self-surveillance and performance anxiety. Drawing on neuroscience, developmental psychology, and trauma theory, the paper argues that digital culture amplifies pre-existing vulnerabilities rooted in family-of-origin dynamics. The proposed conceptual framework demonstrates how familial narcissism and digital narcissism converge to produce fragile self-worth, characterized by anxiety, shame, and identity diffusion. This synthesis underscores the need for trauma-informed approaches to digital well-being, emphasizing emotional literacy, authenticity, and relational resilience as antidotes to performative selfhood. The paper concludes by advocating for cross-disciplinary research and educational reforms that prioritize emotional development over achievement metrics, redefining self-worth as a reflection of humanity rather than visibility. |
