Trichoscope in the Assessment of Kesha: An Ayurvedic Perspective

| Abstract | Kesha is an important anatomical and physiological feature described in Ayurveda and is considered closely associated with Asthi Dhatu, its metabolism and the state of Dosha and Dhatu. Classical Ayurvedic texts describe Kesha as one of the Mala or metabolic products of Asthi Dhatu, while the health, texture, colour, growth and strength of hair are influenced by various factors including Ahara, Agni, Dosha, Dhatu and Prakriti. In contemporary dermatology, trichoscopy is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that provides magnified visualization of the scalp and hair shaft, allowing assessment of hair density, shaft diameter, pigmentation, follicular openings and various structural abnormalities. Integrating trichoscopy with Ayurvedic principles may provide an objective method for documenting Kesha characteristics and correlating them with Ayurvedic concepts such as Prakriti, Dosha, Dhatu Sara, Kesha Pramana and Kesha Swabhava. This article explores the potential role of trichoscopy as a bridge between classical Ayurvedic descriptions of Kesha and modern objective hair assessment. |
