Delimitation of Constituencies in India

Author(s) Mr. Kunal Raj
Country India
Abstract Delimitation is a constitutional and electoral process through which the territorial boundaries oflegislative constituencies are determined or revised. In a representative democracy, constituencyboundaries are closely connected with the distribution of political representation because eachconstituency elects a representative for a defined geographical population. In India, delimitation
operates within a distinctive constitutional framework that combines population-based representationwith federal considerations and reserved representation for historically disadvantaged communities.Articles 81, 82 and 170 provide the principal constitutional foundation, while Articles 330 and 332connect delimitation with reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
