Author(s) Md. Tanvir Ahmed Joy
Country Bangladesh
Abstract In the context of contemporary sculpture practice in Bangladesh, Shyamal Chowdhury occupies a significant and distinctive position. His artworks demonstrate a unique synthesis of aesthetic language, formal expression and socio-political narrative. Themes such as the Liberation War, the struggles of ordinary people, egalitarian consciousness, resistance and humanism remain central to his artistic philosophy. His sculptures are characterized by realistic representation, monumental construction, the use of concrete and metal materials and a close relationship between art and public space. This article attempts to evaluate his artistic vision and contribution to the sculptural tradition of Bangladesh through an analysis of the aesthetic structure, formal language and social implications of his works.
