| Abstract | The rapid globalization of markets and advances in digital technology have enabled some startups to enter international markets soon after their establishment, challenging traditional models of gradual internationalization. This review paper examines the concept of Born Global firms and explores how startups develop international operations from an early stage. It analyzes the theoretical foundations of international entrepreneurship, the characteristics and capabilities of successful Born Global firms, and the technological, financial and institutional factors that enable early internationalization. The paper compares Born Global firms with traditionally internationalizing firms across internationalization speed, innovation, market selection, resource requirements, competitive strategy, organizational structure, growth trajectory and risk profile. Case studies of Spotify, Canva, Airbnb, Freshworks and Zoho are examined to illustrate different pathways to international growth. The analysis finds that innovation capability, entrepreneurial leadership, global mindset, strategic partnerships and digital infrastructure are important contributors to international success. However, early internationalization also creates challenges involving resource constraints, cultural differences, regulation and scaling. The review concludes that Born Global firms are not replacing traditional internationalization models but are expanding the ways in which firms can pursue international growth in an increasingly interconnected business environment. |
