Secure Asymmetric Image Encryption Scheme using Elliptic Curves in Fourier Domain

| Abstract | Phase truncated Fourier transform (PTFT), introduced in 2010, is a well-known optical asymmetric key cryptosystem. PTFT has been proven susceptible to some specific attacks utilizing phase retrieval algorithms. In this paper, a new approach based on elliptic curves is introduced to secure PTFT-based asymmetric scheme. In the proposed scheme, pixel scrambling is accomplished using an elliptic curve having three highly sensitive parameters. Validation of the scheme has been performed through simulations on MATLAB 2023b software for grayscale image. The scheme’s robustness against statistical attacks is evaluated using histogram plots, mesh plot analysis, entropy and correlation coefficient distribution plots. Performance metrics such as peak signal-to-noise ratio, mean squared error and correlation coefficient are evaluated to assess quality of encryption as well as decryption. The scheme exhibits a high degree of resistance against the occlusion attack and noise attacks. The results show that the new approach offers strong security against specific attacks also. |
