Country India
Abstract Understanding how indigenous people interact with the natural world requires an understanding of ethnobotany, the study of traditional plant knowledge and practices. India's cultural and biological variety has led to the emergence of a rich history of ethnobotanical knowledge rooted on indigenous wisdom and rituals. The use of plants in Indian knowledge systems is examined in this essay, with a focus on Ayurveda, Siddha, tribal medicine, local rituals, and Vedic texts. These systems have utilized plant resources for spiritual rites, food security, healing, and ecological balance. Through an interdisciplinary lens, it highlights how these systems have preserved biodiversity and sustainable behaviors. It also emphasizes how important it is to document and maintain this information in order to support sustainable living and biodiversity conservation in the face of modernity and environmental issues.
Keywords Ethnobotany, traditional knowledge, Ayurveda, Siddha, tribal medicine, sustainable practices.
