| Abstract | The concept of Granthi occupies an important position in the subtle-body framework of classical yogic traditions, particularly in Kuṇḍalinī Yoga. The term Granthi, meaning “knot,” “binding,” or “obstruction,” refers to subtle impediments associated with the upward movement of Kuṇḍalinī through Suṣumṇā nāḍī. Brahma Granthi, Viṣṇu Granthi, and Rudra Granthi are traditionally described as three such impediments. Their piercing, known as Granthi-bheda, is associated with yogic transformation and spiritual advancement. The present study aims to critically examine the conceptual and spiritual significance of the three Granthis through a comparative textual analysis of the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā, Yoga-kuṇḍalinī Upaniṣad, and Yogaśikhā Upaniṣad. The study adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and interpretative methodology based on the examination of relevant Sanskrit passages. The analysis focuses on the textual representation of Granthi, its relationship with Kuṇḍalinī and Suṣumṇā nāḍī, and its significance in yogic practice. The findings reveal that the selected texts share a threefold Granthi framework but differ in their practical and explanatory emphasis. The study concludes that Granthi-bheda represents an important concept of progressive inner transformation within selected yogic traditions and should be interpreted within its classical textual context. |
